New Jerusalem Bible Review

If you are looking for modern language Catholic Bible, then New Jerusalem Bible (NJB) is one of the best solutions. The NJB was translated from Hebrew, Greek or Aramaic with a dynamic equivalence (thought by thought) approach to translation. Translation keeps a balance between easy reading and beauty of writing on one hand and with an accuracy of the other hand.

Many Catholics prefer NJB because of its modern style and study notes. It is used mostly for devotional purposes, but the hardback edition has more than enough notes and cross-references to be used also for studies purpose.

The New Jerusalem Bible is the most popular English Catholic Bible in the English speaking countries, outside the United States.

There are no so many editions of New Jerusalem Bible available online in comparison with other Catholic Bible translations (Douay-Rheims, RSV, NABRE …). Bellow, you can find my choice of New Jerusalem Bible available on Amazon. The selection was made according to different reviews. Main criteria were customer reviews,  thoughts, and complaints.

Average rank of customers who bought it on Amazon is 3.4 out of 5.  Some customers are disappointed because of the condense of introduction and notes. Others expected index and table of contents. There are also a few complaints about “micro” size font and difficulties with reading this pocket edition.

So be aware that dimension of the pocket edition is only 1.5 x 4.2 x 6 inches (3.8 x 10.6 x 15.2 cm), the font is small and not easy to read. Additionally, notes and introductions are condensed.
